Meet the Editor - John Lee

I am pleased to be working at AcuTech Consulting focusing initially on AcuSafe NewsTM where I hope to make your job easier with up to date highlights from the world of Process Safety.  I recently retired from Exxon with over 30 years of experience in the petroleum industry, 15 years of which has been specifically in the Process Safety arena.

I believe that I bring a wealth of practical, hands-on process safety experience to AcuSafe.  I have led HAZOP studies, participated in world-wide Safety Management System assessments, and developed successful Process Safety Management Systems at an operating facility.  These systems included elements like: Management of Change; Incident Investigations; Process Safety Information; Operating Procedures; Mechanical Integrity; Emergency Response; and Employee Participation

I particularly enjoyed working with my friends in government by participating as an industry representative in the development of CAL-OSHA’s Process Safety Standard, and the California Office of Emergency Services’ Risk Management Plan regulation.  I was particularly gratified to see the Federal EPA’s final change to the Risk Management Plan rule based on the presentations I coordinated to show how refrigerating flammable gasses is inherently safer.

New information on the Web Site for this month:

EPA RMP Compliance Guidance and Checklist

This document provides guidance for implementing agencies that are required by the Risk Management Program regulation to conduct audits. It is designed as a tool for auditors reviewing industry compliance with the Risk Management Program Regulation. However, this guidance does not reflect all requirements that a stationary source must meet to be in compliance with the regulation.  Expect EPA compliance division and State delegated inspectors to use this checklist if they “visit” for an audit.

New Section on International Regulations

Where else could you easily find the LABOUR LAW OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA?  As we find publicly available information on process safety in countries outside North America, we will add that information to this emerging section.
