RMP UPDATE
Complying with the General Duty Clause

In the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, Congress included a section called the General Duty Clause (GDC), which makes the owners and operators of facilities that have regulated and extremely hazardous substances responsible for ensuring that their chemicals are managed safely. OSHA has a similar GDC. So if parts of your process are not specifically covered by either process safety regular, what can you do to comply? Read Peter Jordan's article on effective programs for compliance with GDC.

INDUSTRY INSIDER
Looking Back -Where have we been in Safety?

At the Fall 1999 API Fire and Safety Conference, Shell retiree John Rivard reviewed the development of safety programs and performance in the industry from the perspective of his career with Shell and the American Petroleum Institute. The topics included personnel safety, contractor safety, process safety, regulators and regulations, and trade associations. In "looking back," his historical review will refresh the memories of those who took part and provide perspective to those who are new to the safety field. Read more from Mr. Rivard about his offerings for the challenges now facing us.
