 RMP Regulatory Update

EPA And FBI Issue Joint Document On S880 Compliance

On August 5, 1999 a law (PL 106-40) modifying the EPA’s Risk Management Plan requirements went into effect. The EPA and FBI have joined together to issue guidance specific to the requirements for a public disclosure and the certification requirements that the meetings or notices are done.  Click here for more news and a link to that guidance document.  There is also a link to a free worksheet to test your readiness for a public meeting.

Hot Topics

EPA Describes RMP Submission Data

At several recent conferences, EPA staffers have indicated that only about one half of the expected Risk Management Plans have been submitted.  We summarize some of the thoughts the EPA has on this.  Additionally, we have Craig Matthiessen’s recent technical paper that gives additional, site non-specific information on the offsite consequence submissions.  Click here to link to additional information on this issue.

HUMAN FACTORS FOCUS

We lead off a new section of AcuSafe NewsTM with a summary of a recent paper presented at 1999 American Petroleum Institute Fire and Safety Conference.  Read a summary of real world operational cost savings through application of Human Factors Engineering by Larry Csengery, Engineering Advisor in the Process Safety and Reliability Division of Equilon’s Houston Technical Center.

 Events Update

Process Risk Management Calendar Available

Next Week is the Mary Kay O’Connor conference in Houston.  If you have to miss it because it just snuck up on you and the boss said it was too late to go, then bookmark our calendar.  Be sure not to miss the API Hands on Risk Assessment and Modeling Training in December.

Our calendar, detailing important conferences, events, meetings, and regulatory deadlines, is available and updated regularly. (http://www.acusafe.com/Calendar/index.html).  Our readers are encouraged to contribute other events of interest to process safety professionals.

And we’ve recently added some new “regulatory deadlines.”  Check it out.
